Airfoil slice

Test prints / LW-PLA: the foam is the calibration

20 mm of the real Wing Outer: one perimeter, a closed trailing edge, infill bonded, the bore on the tube.

Render of the Airfoil slice test print as it stands on the bed.
Rendered from the STL, standing as it prints.

Toolpaths

Every extrusion move in the G-code, layer by layer. Drag the layer slider, scrub through the top layer, or play the print.

Read from the G-code that the printer gets. The clock adds each move at its programmed speed, without acceleration or travel, so it is shorter than the slicer's estimate.

Procedure

What it is for. It checks the Wing Outer’s settings on 20 mm of the real wing before a full wing prints: the one-perimeter skin, the trailing edge, the infill bond and the spar bore.

Print. Print the slice standing, as the Wing Outer prints.

Measure. Check that the skin is one perimeter and the trailing edge is closed. Press the skin between the cells to check that the infill is bonded to it. Push a length of the real 8 mm carbon tube through the bore. The bore measures 8.3 × 9.5 mm in the part’s printed section.

Pass. One perimeter, a closed trailing edge, infill bonded to the skin, and the tube slides in by hand with no wobble.

Record. Pass or fail for each check, and the mass.
