Heat creep

Test prints / PETG: strength and fits

A loaded cantilever at 60 °C: the PETG result is the yardstick for GF-PLA.

Render of the Heat creep test print as it stands on the bed.
Rendered from the STL, standing as it prints.

Toolpaths

Every extrusion move in the G-code, layer by layer. Drag the layer slider, scrub through the top layer, or play the print.

Read from the G-code that the printer gets. The clock adds each move at its programmed speed, without acceleration or travel, so it is shorter than the slicer's estimate.

Procedure

What it is for. Parts near the motors and ESCs get warm. This test measures how far a loaded PETG cantilever bends at 60 °C. The PETG result is the yardstick for GF-PLA.

Print. Print two.

Measure. Clamp both blocks to a shelf in an oven at 60 °C. Hang 200 g from the tip of one. After one hour, measure the tip’s droop against the unloaded one.

Pass. No pass mark for PETG: it sets the yardstick.

Record. The droop in mm.
