PETG-to-LW bond

Test prints / PETG: strength and fits

15 mm lap joints, one in CA and one in epoxy, pulled to failure. The Dowel Coupon tests fit, not bond.

Render of the PETG-to-LW bond test print as it stands on the bed.
Rendered from the STL, standing as it prints.

Toolpaths

Every extrusion move in the G-code, layer by layer. Drag the layer slider, scrub through the top layer, or play the print.

Read from the G-code that the printer gets. The clock adds each move at its programmed speed, without acceleration or travel, so it is shorter than the slicer's estimate.

On top of the stack that the print jobs load. The printer tuning page shows that stack.

Procedure

What it is for. It picks the glue for the PETG-to-LW-PLA joints. The Dowel Coupon tests the dowel fit, not the bond.

Print. Print two PETG strips and two LW-PLA strips.

Measure. Glue one PETG strip to one LW strip with CA and the other pair with epoxy, 15 mm lap to the line. Cure as the glue’s maker says. Pull each to failure through the holes (a hanging bucket works).

Pass. No pass mark. Compare the two loads and where each joint broke.

Record. The load, and where it broke: in the glue, in the LW skin, or in the PETG.
